Mary C. Williams

Mary C. Williams, 95, of Elkhart, passed away Monday July 16, 2018 at Eastlake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Elkhart. She was born Oct. 6, 1922 in Elkhart to Glen and Catherine (Castetter) Thunander. On July 5, 1940 she married Theodore T. Williams who preceded her in death in Nov of 1998.

Surviving are her children T. Thomas (Mary) Williams Jr., of Bristol, Janice R. (Douglas) Mattix of Elkhart, and James C. Williams of Breese, IL; 12 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren and 2 step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter Janet K. Williams, a son, Joel E. Williams, a sister Frances Myers, a brother Robert Thunander and 2 great-grandchildren.

Mary worked for C.G.Conn Co. and the Charles S. Drake Department Store in the office. She was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. Mary was the first female drummer in the Elkhart High School Marching Band. She later became a well-known Ballroom dancer. She also performed with her brother and sister in a musical trio for various clubs in Elkhart. Mary enjoyed playing bridge.

Visitation will be 4-6 pm Sunday July 22nd at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home where the rosary will be said at 4 pm. A Mass of Christian burial will be 10am Monday July 23rd at St. Thomas Church with Fr. Jason Freiburger officiating. Burial will follow at Rice Cemetery, Elkhart.
