Louis Robert Evans

Louis Robert Evans, 91 of Elkhart passed away Thursday, August 3, 2023 at Brentwood at Elkhart Assisted Living. Louis was born March 31, 1932 to Louis and Anna (Berger) Evans in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. He married Phyllis Jean Bates on June 2, 1961, she preceded him in death on August 6, 2012.

Louis attended St. Michaels Industrial School in Pennsylvania and served in Tripoli, Africa as a member of the United States Air Force during the Korean War from October 1950 to March 1952, where he was a cryptographer. When he left the service, Louis worked in the band instrument industry in Elkhart for many years as a finisher and engraver for Artley’s, Buescher Band Instrument, Blessings and Gemeinhardt. He also did engraving at his home. Louis loved to golf and won many golf tournaments.

He is survived by his brother Edward Evans of Pennsylvania; his nieces Cindy (Vaughn) Nickell of Elkhart IN; Betty Perzia of Pennsylvania and nephew Bill Evans of Mesa, Arizona and other nieces and nephews; Louis was preceded in death by his parents Louis and Anna Evans, his wife Phyllis Evans and his brothers Robert, Joe, Richard “Dick” and Carl.

Visitation will be form 4-6 pm on Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, 1531 Cobblestone Blvd., Elkhart, IN 46514. Service will be at 6:00 pm.  A private burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Osceola, IN. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N.
