Alberta Giles, age 73, passed away on October 19, 2026, leaving behind loved ones who will forever cherish her memory.
Born in Memphis, Tennessee, to the late Earnestine and Eugene Miles, Alberta moved with her family to Chicago, Illinois, at the age of five. She grew up alongside her five sisters, Anne, Elzonia, Mary Jean, Juanita, and Barbara, and her four brothers, Charles, Richard, Robert, and Edgar. In the early 1990s, she moved to Elkhart, Indiana, where she made her home.
Alberta was a quiet woman with a feisty personality and a firecracker spirit that made her unforgettable. At just 4 feet 9 inches tall, she had a presence far greater than her size. A true bookworm, she loved reading and learning. She devoted much of her working life to social work, caring deeply about helping families in need, until she suffered a stroke in 2006.
Her Faith and Spiritual Legacy
Faith in Jehovah was central to Alberta’s life. She learned the truth in the 1970s and symbolized her dedication through water baptism as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on March 25, 2012. She was part of the Elkhart South Congregation and deeply valued the love, friendship, and support of her spiritual family.
Alberta enjoyed sharing her beliefs, especially with her children and grandchildren, hoping they would come to know Jehovah personally and prioritize their spiritual needs. She shared a special bond with her niece, Lisa Miles, who was also her spiritual sister through their shared faith.
Alberta treasured the Bible’s resurrection hope and looked forward to seeing her beloved friends and family again in the new world promised in the Scriptures. Job 14:15, which speaks of Jehovah longing for the work of his hands and calling for them again, reflected the hope she held dear.
Her Family and the Love She Gave
Alberta played an important role in raising her grandchildren. She loved her children and grandchildren deeply and always wanted what she believed was best for them.
She leaves to cherish her memory her daughters, Leah and Melissa; her grandchildren, Tiffany, Terrance, Charlene, and William; her great-grandchildren, Ky’Anna, Damarion, Syh’yahr, and Leland; and Allen Giles, whom she married in 1978. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Taylor, whose memory remains treasured.
A Life Remembered
Alberta will be remembered for her love of books, her feisty spirit, her compassion for families in need, and her devotion to Jehovah. Though those who knew her will remember her in their own special ways, the faith she held dear gave her the hope of seeing her loved ones again in the new world Jehovah has promised.
May the memories of Alberta and the hope that sustained her bring comfort and peace to all who mourn her passing.
