Catherine E. Checkley

Catherine E. Checkley, 92 of Elkhart, IN. died January 7, 2011 at 5:13 AM at Greenleaf Living Center, Elkhart. She was born on March 19, 1918 in Elkhart to William & Maude (Nay) Mitchell. She married Donald Checkley on May 18, 1940 in Goshen, IN. He preceded her in death on April 6, 1993.

Survivors include two sons; James D. (Ann) Checkley of Middlebury, IN. and David L. (Marie) Checkley of Linden, Michigan, six grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and twelve great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Tommy, brothers, William, Harry, Willis and Arden Mitchell and a sister, Helen Moorehouse.

Friends may call from 4-6 PM. Sunday at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home at Cobblestone Crossing and one hour prior to the funeral service which will be held at 2 P.M. Monday. Reverend Bill Steimke from St. Paul’s Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will take place at Oakridge Cemetery, Bristol at a later date. Memorial contributions may be given to the Southern Care Hospice.
