Charles R. Baer, 79, of Goshen, passed away Saturday May 5, 2018 at Hospice House of Elkhart. He was born June 13, 1938 in Goshen, IN to Floyd I. and Lois E. (Reith) Baer. On June 15, 1963 in Mt. Vernon, IL he married Clara Bassett who survives along with a son Bruce (Stephanie) Baer of Elkhart, IN and a daughter Sarah (Dave) Elliott of Elkhart, IN, 5 grandchildren: Braden and Collin Baer and Dalton, Paige and Bailey Elliott; 2 sisters: Cindy (Gene) Mishler of New Mexico and Linda (Greg) Murden of Wildwood, MO.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Max I. Baer and R. Lee Baer
Charles graduated from Mt. Carmel High School, Lawson, KY in 1957, attended Kentucky Mountain Bible College and graduated from Bethel College, Mishawaka in 1965.
He worked as a salesman for Jewel Tea and Schwann’s.
Charles was a member of the Northside Church of the Nazarene where he served as a Sunday school teacher, church board member and Sunday School Superintendent. He volunteered in the food pantry at the Salvation Army for 14 years.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 pm Friday May 11 at Northside Church of the Nazarene and 1 hour prior to the 11am service Saturday May 12 at the church with Pastors Tim Sheets and Richard Secor officiating. Burial will follow at Sugar Grove Cemetery, Goshen.
Memorials may be made to Kentucky Mountain Bible College, Gideons International or Center for Hospice Care. Arrangements are entrusted to Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home where online condolences may be made at www.stemmlawsonpeterson.com.
