Chester W. Zurek, 84, of Elkhart, Indiana, passed away July 9, 2008 at Elkhart General Hospital.
He was born on July 9, 1924 in Chicago, Illinois to Anton and Amiela (Polinski) Zurek and married Adele R. Wojniak on April 12, 1947 in Chicago. She preceded him in death on July 8, 1996. Surviving are a son, Thomas A. (Catherine) Zurek of Elkhart, 3 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. 5 brothers and 4 sisters preceded him in death.
Mr. Zurek served with the U.S. Army during World War II and retired as superintendent of the Chicago Park District after 37 years. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Bristol; The D.A.V. # 19, V.F.W. #88 and the American Legion #210.
Graveside services will be at 1:00 pm Friday at Rice Cemetery. Fr. Bob VanKempen will officiate. The DAV# 19 will conduct military honors after the service at the cemetery.
Memorials may be given to St. Mary's Catholic Church, Bristol.
