Danny Dewey Guy of Las Cruces, NM (former resident of Indiana) passed away in the early morning hours of December 21, 2018.

Danny leaves a legacy of love.  He is survived by his wife, Diana (married on March 5th, 1977, in South Bend, Indiana) and two children; a son, Gene (Ann) Guy of Elkhart; and a daughter, Shannan (Steve) Asbury of Elkhart; He is also survived by six Grandchildren, Alexis, Brandan, Sarah, Samuel, Addison, and Thomas; a sister, Thelah Mosier of Elkhart and a brother, Ray (Judy) Freed of Bristol as well as several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Ted Guy.

In 1963 he answered the call to serve his country and joined the Air Force.  During the Vietnam War he worked in communications and was stationed on Johnston Island (located in the North Pacific Ocean southwest of Hawaii).  After serving four years, he continued in the Air Force Reserves from 1967-1969.

It was during this time in the Air Force that Danny expanded his knowledge of communications and electronics.  This experience led him to employment at the Indiana Bell Telephone company.  He worked at IBT from 1969 to 1981, at which time he left Indiana and made Las Cruces his new home having been transferred to Mountain Bell Telephone Company.  Danny retired from “Ma Bell” in 2001.

Danny, known for his “handlebar moustache”, had numerous hobbies throughout his retirement.  He became avid hot air balloonists and crewed for nearly a decade.  In addition to caring for his beloved dogs and cats, he was an enthusiastic ham radio operator.  Danny also enjoyed tinkering with his computers, experimenting with electronics, 4-wheeling, reading and taking care of his 2005 Ford pickup.

Danny wished to be cremated.  A celebration of life with be held in Elkhart at a later date.  In the meantime, condolences may be expressed at www.stemmlawsonpeterson.com.
