Darlene Van Wormer

Darlene M. Van Wormer, age 92, of Elkhart, IN. She went home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 2, 2026 at the Center for Hospice Care ~Esther’s House, with her family by her side. Darlene was born on May 4, 1933 in Elkhart, IN. She married Edward H. Van Wormer on August 1, 1954 at Bristol United Methodist Church in Bristol, IN., he preceded her in death on July 19, 2004.

Darlene graduated from Bristol High School in Bristol, IN. She was a very active member at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Elkhart, IN. She sang in the church choir since she was 13 years old, she enjoyed attending Bible Studies and Fellowship for over 20 years. Darlene was a devoted wife, mom, grandma and great-grandma. She liked to keep busy from making crafts, going to the theater, playing games with her family and taking organ lessons. Darlene worked at Selmer’s and later at Bristol Products. She was the owner and operator of the Bridal Boutique and later the Country Goose Arts and Crafts Store. Darlene loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She will be sadly missed.

Darlene is survived by her daughters, Sue Moses of Elkhart, IN., Sharon (Ronald) Johnson of Elkhart, IN., Sandra Van Wormer of Elkhart, IN and Mary (Gene) Coddens of Bristol, IN; 10 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 8 step-great-grandchildren and 1 step-great-great grandson and her brother Jim (Sandy) Artley of Edwardsburg, MI., as well as several nieces and nephews. Darlene was preceded in death by her mom Rose Johnson, and her parents Arnold and Alice Artley, her husband Edward, their son Edward G. Van Wormer, her grandson Robert Wilson Jr. and her 2 brothers.

Visitation will be from 10am-12pm on Saturday, January 10, 2026 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 405 West Beardsley Ave., Elkhart, IN 46514 where funeral services will be at 12pm. Pastor Tom DeFries will officiate. Darlene will be laid to rest next to her late husband, Edward, at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Osceola, IN. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in memory of Darlene may be made to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.
