Donald James Scharrer

Donald James Scharrer, 87, of Elkhart, IN., passed away on Monday, May 27, 2024 at his home surrounded by his family. Don was born on August 16, 1936 to Frederick and Florence Scharrer in Elkhart, IN. He married Carol Scharrer, who preceded him in death on November 10, 1993. Don married Sue Ann Flora on September 7, 1995 in Juneau, AK.

Don graduated from Elkhart High School, class of 1954. He was the owner and president of Don’s Printing, INC. He enjoyed spending time with his family during the summer at their family cottage in Bristol. He always stayed busy putzing around the cottage, clearing trees and burning fires. He was an avid tennis player. He enjoyed flying his private plane and going sailing. Most of all Don loved to spend time with his family and friends.

Don is survived by his wife Sue Ann Scharrer of Elkhart, IN., his children Cynthia (Eric) Diamond of South Bend, IN., Michele (Chris) Habic of Cassopolis, MI., William R. (Kris) Flora of Bristol, IN., and Jeffrey Lynn (Tracy) Flora of Maryland; daughter-in-law Wendi Scharrer of Bristol, IN., 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Don was preceded in death by his parents Frederick Scharrer and Florence Culp, and his son Steven J. Scharrer.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 pm on Friday May 31, 2024 at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, 1531 Cobblestone Blvd., Elkhart, IN 46514. Funeral services will be at 11 am on Saturday June 1, 2024 at the funeral home where visitation will be one hour before services. Burial will follow at Rice Cemetery in Elkhart, IN.
