Doris E. Snyder, age 97, passed away on Friday, July 30, 2021 at Goshen Hospital. Doris was born on October 13, 1923 in Elkhart to Rollin Dewey and Florence Bertch. On August 7, 1943 she married Robert Stevens Snyder in Greenville, SC, he preceded her in death on June 5, 2009.

Doris graduated from Bristol High School class of 1941. She was the oldest living member of Bristol United Methodist Church. She was a member of the National Rural Letter Carriers auxiliary, Elkhart Community School Secretaries Association, Elder Haven Group of Bristol United Methodist Church, widow and widowers’ group and a variety of clubs. She worked at Bristol Telephone Office as a switchboard operator during her senior year of high school. While in high School she sang in the mixed choir, the Girls’ Choir, Girls’ Sextet, played the French horn in the band and orchestra at Bristol High School. After graduating high school, she sang in the church choir. She worked at Citizens State Bank, as a clerk, bookkeeper, Operator of the machines, etc., “Jack of all Trades” She was secretary of Buckingham Air Force Base at Buckingham, FL near Fort Myers, during WWII, while her husband, Bob, was stationed there. She was secretary at Bristol Elementary School for 30 years; a Brownie and Girl Scout leader for 12 years; treasurer of Charles Ward Harker American Legion Post #143 in Bristol. She served as Education Chairperson and Communion Chairperson at Bristol United Methodist Church. She was a Sunday School and Bible School teacher. A member of Queen Esther’s of the church. After retiring, she volunteered at Goshen General Hospital in Medical records and at the Elementary School in the Kindergarten Class. She belonged to the Wii Bowling Team at Greencroft. She volunteered at the Teen Club at the Open Door Center in Bristol one day a week. She also belonged to the church Bible study group. She enjoyed reading, needlework, fishing, most sports, traveling, golfing, playing board games and cards. But most of all she loved spending time with her family and friends.

Doris is survived by her children, Debra (Randy) Whisenant of Denison, TX, and Tamra (David) Redden of Noblesville, IN, her grandchildren, Temi (Jarret) Shuler, Katie Jo (Nick Clark) Whisenant, Emilie (Todd) Bolster and Robert (Jessica) Redden and her great-grandchildren, Darius, Jade, Zivan, Lincoln, Haylee, Ian, Sylvie and Caroline. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother Charles Bertch and her sister Kathryn Rowe.

Funeral services will be held at 12 pm on Thursday, August 5, 2021 at Bristol United Methodist Church, 201 South Division Street, Bristol, IN 46507 where friends may visit with family from 10am -12pm with Pastor Gary Lewis officiation. Burial will follow at Zion Cemetery in Bristol.
