Dorothy M. Landon

Dorothy M. Landon, 108, of Bristol, IN, passed away peacefully Sunday, September 27, 2026 at her daughter’s home in Goshen, IN surrounded by family. She was born December 12, 1917 in Elkhart IN to Orville and Rosina “Rose” Sones. Her mother later married John Webster who Dorothy loved dearly and considered a father. A devout Catholic Christian who loved the LORD. She has been attending St. Mary Annunciation Catholic Church since it’s founding in 1941.

Dorothy was the oldest of 4 children and graduated from the 8th grade during the depression years to work on the family farm along with other domestic jobs to help support her family.

On September 8,1940 she married her husband of 53 years, Francis R. Landon. Together they raised four children; John, Donna, Edward, and Paula. Dorothy worked at Kresge’s 5 & 10 and many years at Markley Enterprises. She was the first president of the Bristol American Legion Women’s Axillary.

Dorothy was an amazingly strong woman with a kind and loving heart, always willing to help those in need. Adored and admired by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great - great grandchildren, family and friends.

She enjoyed crocheting countless items for family, friends, and those in need. It brought her great joy right up to her last day. She made hats and scarves for the homeless, hats for the cancer center and Nicu, prayers shawls for church and nursing homes, blankets for the animal shelter and many items for the church bazaar and for family and friends.

She also enjoyed cooking and baking for her family, leaving many found memories of apple dumplings and her famous monster cookies. One of her greatest joys was spending time with her family and having everyone get together for reunions and her birthday.

Survived by daughters Donna Miller (Goshen) and Paula Ross (Goshen), many grandchildren, many, many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her parents Orville Sones, John and Rose Webster, husband Francis R. Landon, children John and Edward Landon, grandchildren Edward “Eddy Ray” Landon and Victoria Wheat, and siblings Edna “Penny” Sones, Willard “Bud” Sones, and Betty Lawson.

Visitation for Dorothy will be from 6:00pm - 8:00pm Thursday October 1, 2026, at St. Mary Annunciation Catholic Church, 411 W. Vistula Street, Bristol, IN 46507. A rosary will be said at 5:45pm immediately prior to the visitation.

Friday morning will begin with a 10:00 visitation, 11:00 Mass Service, followed by a Christian burial with a luncheon to immediately follow at St. Mary Annunciation Catholic Church.
