Dorothy E. Reber

Dorothy Ellen Reber, 93, formerly of Elkhart, IN, passed away Friday, January 2, 2026, at Hamilton Trace in Fishers, IN. She was born on May 3, 1932, to Emil and Elsie Schmeling of Union, MI. Dorothy married Wayne William Reber on May 2, 1965. After 53 years of marriage, he preceded her in death on April 10, 2018.

A graduate of Bristol High School in 1949, Dorothy worked at NIBCO in the accounting department until she and Wayne started their family in 1971. Dorothy then earned her Real Estate License and successfully worked in the industry into her 70s.

Dorothy loved nothing more than spending time with her grandchildren, friends, and family. Her door was always open, and their beautiful backyard saw many games of croquet, cards, and good times! She enjoyed golf and was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Union, MI. Dorothy was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Elkhart, IN.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Kimberly Ann Tokach, and son-in-law, Stacey Tokach, of Fishers, IN; her 3 grandchildren, Blake - his wife Lexi, Tyler, and Madison Schaus, all of Fishers, IN; and her sister, Arlene (Jim) Southard, of Vandalia, MI. Dorothy was preceded in death by her brothers, Edward (Vera) Schmeling and Emil Junior Schmeling whose wife Lois survives and lives in Elkhart, IN. Dorothy had many nieces, nephews and cousins who she loved very much and were such an important part of her life.

Visitation will be from 10am-12 noon Friday, January 9, 2026, at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, 1531 Cobblestone Blvd., Elkhart, IN 46514, where funeral services will be at 12:30 p.m. Burial will follow at Plum Grove Cemetery in Union, MI.
