Son of Marion and Margaret Lind, George was born on September 20, 1930 on a family farm in northeastern Iowa. His hard work on the farm was offset with fun times of hunting, trapping, and fishing. He attended a nearby small country school until 6th grade when the family moved to Manchester, Iowa, where he participated in sports and band and graduated valedictorian from high school. He especially loved playing baseball for nearby town (semi-pro) teams in summers.

After graduation, he trained in the Army as a specialist in counter-mortar radar detection and chemical/germ warfare for the Korean War, but deployment orders were deferred at the last minute. He exited service as a First Lieutenant. George then worked for Shell Oil, moving to locations throughout Texas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Colorado, and Montana.
On August 26, 1960, he married Mimi Stoutenour. He was father to Jenny and Cliff. The family moved from Billings, Montana to Goshen, Indiana in 1963, where he worked for Salem Insurance Agency, eventually becoming president. Retiring in1998, he then worked part-time for H&R Block during tax seasons.
After divorcing, he married Susan Jacka on March 23, 1995, and they moved to Rio Rancho, NM, returning to Elkhart in 2024. George was an excellent golfer, even in his 90’s. He and Sue travelled extensively. George had a phenomenal memory for minute details, even in his last days.
