Janet G. Bute, 92, of Bristol, passed away Tuesday June 30, 2026 at home surrounded by her family. She was born January 13, 1934 in Nappanee, IN to Jay and Maybelle Rohrer. On June 4, 1955 in Marks, MS, she married Garth Bute who preceded her in death on March 18, 2005.
After graduating high school, Janet attended nursing school and worked as a nurse's aide. She also worked in a cabinet factory making countertops and cabinets. She loved her cats and dogs and enjoyed sitting on the front porch swinging. Most of all she loved her family.
Left to miss her are her children, Garth Allen (Barbara) Bute of Elkhart, Shellane Gist of Bristol, Timothy (Teresa) Bute of Elkhart, Kathy (William "Bill") Ernsperger of Elkhart, grandchildren, Jason (Jaime) Gist, Brandon (Mary Beth) Gist, Joshua Gist, Jessie Sawyer, Jeremiah Bute, Ashley Bute, Sara Bute, Tony Bute, Steve Bute, Lacey Ernsperger, great-grandchildren, Iziaiaha, Jace and Jayla, great-great-grandchildren, Victoria, Crewie and Colton. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Garth, son-in-law Steve Gist, granddaughter Cassandra Bute and her brothers Norman Rohrer and Richard "Dick" Rohrer.
Visitation will be from 11am to 1pm on Wednesday July 8, 2026 at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, 1531 Cobblestone Blvd., Elkhart, IN 46514 where a memorial service will be at 1pm with Pastor Keith McFarren officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be given to Cancer resources for Elkhart County, P.O.
