Janet C. (Platz) Leer

Janet C. Leer, age 70, of Elkhart passed away on Thursday, March 21, 2019 at her home surrounded by her family, after a courageous battle with ALS. Janet was born on August 21, 1948 to Russell F. and Vera E. (Powell) Platz. On September 25, 1976 she married Harold L. Leer.

Janet is survived by her children, Erin (David) Rumfelt of Elkhart and Michael (Laurie) Prugh of Elkhart, grandchildren, Jackie Gove, Daina (Austin) Heflin, Drew (Kristin) Shellenbarger, Zack Prugh, Davin Rumfelt and Dain Rumfelt as well as eight great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Marla (Jim) Diamond of Michigan. Janet was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harold, and her sister Preggy Platz.

Janet was a retired secretary from the Elkhart County Court Services. She graduated from Elkhart High School and attended Hillsdale College.

Friends may visit with family from 5pm – 7pm on Wednesday, March 27, 2019 at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home 1531 Cobblestone Blvd, Elkhart. Funeral services will be at 7pm at the funeral home. Chaplain Bob Puhr will be officiating.
