Janet Kay Owens, 80, of Osceola, IN passed away on Friday, May 8, 2026 at the Center for Hospice Esther’s House in Elkhart, IN. She was born on January 31, 1946 in Elkhart, IN to Forrest and Nellie (Hall) Sigler.
After graduating from Concord High School in 1964, Janet began working for Wire Design as a supervisor. She also worked for many years as a crossing guard. Her most important job titles, however, were “Mom”, “Mama”, “Momma” and “MeMaw”. She’s so cute!
Janet could often be found working on a puzzle or playing Bomber Man and Dr. Mario on her Nintendo. She loved playing cards, especially euchre, with her friends and family. Her wonderful collection of angel and butterfly figurines were nothing compared to her most prized possession; her children. Janet will be greatly missed.
Janet is survived by her children; Lisa Ritchie of Elkhart, IN, Jamison Owens of Osceola, IN, Christina (Royce) Pletcher of Goshen, IN and Melinda (TK) Owens of South Bend, IN, grandchildren; Gabriel (Toni) Ritchie, Erica (Mason) Ogle, Jessica Ritchie, Cody Owens, Jennifer Pletcher, Katelyn (Devin) Rudloff, Jordan Pletcher, Nickolas Pletcher, Ashton Pletcher, Tyler Edwards, Ethan Pennington and Rylyn Pennington, 22 great-grandchildren and counting, her brother, Richard Sigler, niece, Rachel (William) Rody and great-nephews; Jimmy and Johnny. She was preceded in death by her parents, Forrest and Nellie Sigler, a grandson, Michael Pletcher, and her sister-in-law, Mary Sigler.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. She will be laid to rest at Rice Cemetery near her mom and grandparents. Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, 1531 Cobblestone Blvd, Elkhart, IN 46514, is assisting the family with arrangements. Condolences may be left at www.stemmlawsonpeterson.com
