Joan L. Burton

Joan L. Burton, 90, of Elkhart, IN., passed away Tuesday February 13, 2024 at Hubbard Hill Estates, Elkhart, IN. She was born July 21, 1933 in Marion, IN to Wayne and Lucille Stilwell.  She married G. Russell Burton on April 1, 1953 in Marion, IN.

Joan enjoyed traveling with her late husband George. She was always up for a good game of euchre or bowling and spending time at the lake with her family. She was always interested in talking about politics and money or watching the Indianapolis Colts. She loved to spend time with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren. Joan loved to remark that her doctor once told her she needed a hobby. Always one to follow doctor’s orders, she took up one, shopping.

Joan is survived by her sons George (Gwendolyn) Burton, Jr. of Edwardsburg, MI and Matthew Burton of Albany, IN; grandchildren Christina (Jake) Morris, Jacob (Nicole) Burton, Amanda (Matt) Pinili, Joshua (Trista) Burton and Austin (Ariana) Burton; great-grandchildren Oscar, Maxwell, Franklin, Adeline, Laney, Ellie, Ethan, Justin, Audrey, James, Ella Nathaniel and Noah; her sister Rosemary Carey and her brother John (Mimi) Stilwell. Joan was preceded in death by her parents Wayne and Lucille Stilwell, husband George R. Burton, grandson Russell Burton, sister Louise Courtney and brothers-in-law Ralph Carey and Roger Courtney.

Memorial mass will be held at noon on Tuesday February 27, 2024 at St. Paul Catholic Parish, 1031 West Kem Road, Marion, IN 46952, where visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:45 am. Burial will follow at Grant Memorial Park where Joan will be laid to rest with her husband.
