Julian “Dewayne” Adkins, 62 of Elkhart, IN passed away on Monday, May 27, 2024 at Elkhart General Hospital. Dewayne was born on April 13, 1962 in Springfield, TN to Julian Poole and Velma Jean Adkins. He married Tina Bouma on September 8, 2012 at Shiojiri Gardens in Mishawaka, IN.

Dewayne graduated from Penn High School in Mishawaka, IN., class of 1981. He honorably served his country in the United States Army Reserves for over 22 years. He was a member of the Kane Masonic Lodge #183 F&A.M. in Elkhart and the South Bend Scottish Rite. He was a career truck driver and retired from Holland Trucking in South Bend, IN. Dewayne enjoyed spending time with people, as he never knew a stranger. He would give you the shirt off his back, even if he didn’t have one to put back on. He truly loved to spend time with his dogs and his family. He will be sadly missed.

Dewayne is survived by his wife Tina Adkins, her son Tyler Bouma of Elkhart, IN; his siblings Theresa Brown of Springfield, TN, Pam (Mike) Estes of Osceola, Peggy Stump of Elkhart and David (Donna) Adkins of Osceola and a host of nieces and nephews. Dewayne was preceded in death by his parents Julian and Velma Adkins; brother, Ronald Dale Adkins; sister Sheila Gail (Kent) Leazenby and Debbie (Fern) Jones and nephews, Jason Poole Adkins and Dylan Bailey; and brother-in-law Garry Stump.

Friends may visit with family from 4-6 pm on Thursday, May 30, 2024 at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, 1531 Cobblestone Blvd., Elkhart, IN 46514.  Masonic funeral rites and funeral services will be held at 6 pm with military honors. Dewayne will be laid to rest at Ft. Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, MI at a later date.
