Larry D. Kiefer, 83, of Elkhart passed at his home surrounded by his family on Sunday, December 4, 2022. Larry was born on February 6, 1939 in Elkhart to Maynard and Wilma Kiefer. He married Diane Marie on June 8, 1963 in Elmhurst, IL.

Larry is survived by his daughter Kathy (Thomas) Nowicki of Elkhart, IN and his son David (Tracy) Kiefer of Elkhart, IN; grandchildren Andrew (Maggie) Nowicki, Katie Kiefer, Jacob Kiefer and Kevin McCarthy. Larry was preceded in death by his parents Maynard and Wilma Kiefer, wife Diane and his brother Dale (Stephanie) Kiefer.

Larry received his Master’s in Education from Ball State University. He was a Industrial Arts teacher in the Elkhart Community School System for over 48 year, where he was a junior high school football, wrestling and volleyball coach. After retirement he was a substitute teacher for over 10 years. After 40 years of teaching, he was awarded The Key to the City. Larry loved a new adventure. He was always very active and never had a dull moment. He had a love for flying and received his pilot’s licenses and often flew with his dad. He was an avid skydiver and he enjoyed the adrenaline rush so much he got his grandchildren to partake in his adventures. He enjoyed going to airshows, kayaking or going white water rafting on the Gauley River in West Virginia with his friends. He was an avid small game hunter. Larry was a member of Indiana State Teachers Association, Nation Education Association, National Rifle Association and Sigma Phi Epsilon at Ball State University.

In keeping with Larry’s wishes there will be no services. Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, 1315 Cobblestone Blvd., Elkhart, IN 46514 is assisting the Kiefer family.
