Linnie Hilde

Linnie A. Hilde, age 84 of Elkhart, IN passed away at her home with her family by her side on Sunday, May 3, 2026. Linnie was born on January 7, 1942 to Leonard and Clela Northam in Walkerton, IN. Linnie married Richard J. Hilde on May 24, 1997 and they have celebrated almost 29 years of marriage together.

Linnie attended Walkerton High School, class of 1960. She retired from Clark Food Service/ Simon Bros. as a sales representative. Linnie was an avid reader, enjoyed playing Mah-jongg, and for many years made beautiful pottery gifts for friends and family. She traveled extensively with her husband, Richard. But most of all she loved to spend time with her family and friends. Linnie was known for her kindness, joyfulness, and her gratitude for every day, often described by her loved ones as strong, compassionate, and easy to laughter. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be sorely missed.

Linnie is survived by her husband, Richard Hilde; children Bunni (John) Strang, Angela (Mark) Doxtader and step children, Suzanne (Cameron) Snyder and David (Amanda) Hilde; grandchildren, John (Meghan) Strang, Ryan Strang, Nichole (Jim) Temple, Tracey (Josh) Schafer, Maggie (Corey) Tindall, Cole Doxtader, Anne Marie Doxtader, Mia C. Doxtader, Courtney (Michael) McIntyre, Ryan (Jessica) Snyder, Kristin (Cameron) Epple, Rachel Hilde, Cali Hilde, and Drake (Reagan) Lamp; great grandchildren, Madison (Danny) Clevenger, Justin Strang, Jimmy Temple, Hailey Temple, Brayden Strang, Chloe Strang, Ava Strang, Emmitt Shafer, Everitt Shafer, Lincoln McIntyre, Mavyn McIntyre, Ethan McIntyre, Adalyn Snyder and Weslan Snyder; her siblings, Leonard (Debbie) Northam, Ronald (Mary) Northam, Rogene (Jerry) Rankert and Kimberly (Mike) Towle, as well as the father to her children, Darrell Steele. Linnie was preceded in death by her son Tracy Steele, her parents Richard and Clela Northam, siblings Dennis Northam, Bernard Northam, Gregory Northam, Jerrie Sue Scott, Cheryl Hunsley.

Friends and family may gather from 3-6 pm on Thursday, May 14, 2026 at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, 1531 Cobblestone Blvd., Elkhart, IN 46514 where a celebration of Linnie’s life will be held at 6pm. She will be laid to rest at East Lawn Cemetery in North Liberty, IN., services will be private.
