Lyle Baker

July 19, 1944 — June 6, 2025

Lyle Junior Baker, 80, of Elkhart, IN gently passed away on Friday, June 6. 2025 at his home. Lyle was born on July 19, 1944 to Lyle Arthur and Beatrice, nee Clark, Aman. Lyle attended school in Plymouth until his family moved to Elkhart, IN. He graduated from Concord High School, class of 1962. Lyle is survived by his wife of 57 years, Patricia L. and sons, Michael (Mike), Mishawaka, IN and Christopher (Chris) Baker, Elkhart, IN. Lyle, "Bud" to his sisters and brothers, is survived by his sisters, Beverly Wynn, Louis Trowbridge, Patricia Weedling, brothers Randall (Deborah) Aman, Ronald Aman and Daniel Aman. He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters Karen Matheney, Janet Stevens, and brother Steve Aman.

Upon graduation, Lyle entered the U.S. Navy, having enlisted while a senior in high school. Lyle served in the Navy for 11 years as a proud submariner machinist mate. He was stationed at Pearl Harbor for six years. It was at a boat's picnic that he met Pat and they married in 1967 in Kaimuki, HI.

After discharge from the Navy, Lyle and family settled in Ocala, Florida until he learned of an opening in the power department at Miles Laboratories, Elkhart. Lyle was hired and started a career that lasted 32 years. He retired from Miles/Bayer Corp. with 25 years of perfect attendance. After retirement he looked forward to meeting with his coworkers for lunch.

Lyle was a devoted husband and father. He loved spending time with his family vacationing, participating in school activities as a volunteer or to chaperone. He was an avid sportsman enjoying many seasons hunting, fishing, golfing and attending Jimtown High School football games.

Known to his military friends and local neighbors as "Jerry", he took great joy in helping his neighbors and friends. Whenever they had a need that required his mechanical abilities he would always answer "no problem" and he would promptly gather up his tools and appear at their doorstep.

Until his recent illness Lyle and Pat attended the Vineyard Church, Mishawaka. He had a life changing experience that brought him closer to Jesus, his personal Savior. Seeing his peers on Saturday night at church really was uplifting to him and much appreciated.
