Mary Lovely

Mary Katherine Lovely, 87 of Goshen, IN passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Tuesday, August 19, 2025. Mary was born on August 9, 1938 in Elkhart, IN to Vernon and Trella Marie Cook. She married Harold J. Schmidt on November 17, 1967, he preceded her in death on June 27, 1975.

Mary worked at Goshen Rubber as an Inspector; she hauled RV's alongside her late husband Philip in their dually truck. She enjoyed gardening, canning in the fall to enjoy good meals all winter long. Making and creating new and improved recipes and cooking good meals for family and friends to enjoy. Most of all Mary loved to spend time with her family. 

Mary is survived by her daughter Kim (Charles) Newman of Goshen, IN; nieces and nephews, Jack (Tammy) Cook, Jim Cook, Louann (Joshua) King, Linda (Curtis) Perry, Ronnie (Lori) Cook, and Marilyn Hemminger, sisters-in-law Ruby Cook and Phyllis Johnson as well as several cousins and friends. Mary was preceded in death by his parents Vernon and Trella Marie Cook, sons Mike Schmidt and Dennis Schmidt, niece Annette Humes and siblings, Shera Brothers, Dutch Johnson, Robert "Bob" Johnson, Benjamin Cook and Winnie Lovely, and her late husband and daughter Kim's father, Philip Lovely.

Friends may visit with family from 1-3 pm on Saturday, August 23, 2025 at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, 1531 Cobblestone Blvd., Elkhart, IN 46514 where funeral services will be held at 3pm. Burial will be at 2 pm Monday, August 25, 2025 at Prairie Street Cemetery in Elkhart.
