Michael Don Harris

Michael Don Harris, age 58, of Vandalia, Michigan passed away on Tuesday, March 29, 2022 at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, IN. Michael was born to Donald B. and Patricia Harris on January 17, 1964 in Elkhart, IN. He married Shannon Owen on May 20, 2010 in Michigan.

Michael worked for the City of Elkhart for 24 years, with roles in the Street Department, Central Garage, and the Buildings and Grounds Department. He enjoyed collecting pottery and antiques, tinkering on small engine and chain saw projects, feeding the wildlife in his backyard, and going for long walks in the woods with his dogs, Mya and Remi. His true love in life was spending time with his family and friends.

Michael is survived by his wife Shannon of Vandalia, MI., his mom Pat of Elkhart, IN.; children Christopher Harris of Elkhart, IN., Hannah Harris of Charlotte, MI., Meghan Owen of Niles, MI., and Kaitlyn Owen of Vandalia, MI; his brothers Chris (Cathy) Harris of Edwardsburg, MI., Mitch Harris of Bristol, IN., and Mark (Sherri) Harris of Elkhart, IN. Michael was preceded in death by his father Donald B. Harris and his son Mark R. Harris.

A celebration of life gathering  for Michael will be held from 11 am - 3 pm on Sunday, April 3, 2022 at Studebaker Pavilion, 1020 McDonald Street, Elkhart, IN  46514. Mike’s family has asked family and friends to join them. There will be a potluck lunch and anyone who would like to bring a dish to share is welcome to do so.  Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, 1531 Cobblestone Blvd., Elkhart, IN 46514 is assisting the Harris family.
