Michael Jay Stewart

Michael Jay Stewart, 64, of Elkhart, IN passed away on Wednesday May 29, 2024 with his family by his side at Indiana Health University Hospital in Indianapolis, IN. Mike was born on April 27, 1960 to Gerald “Jerry” Albert and Karen Louise Stewart in Rhinelander, WI.  Mike married Susan Ayers on June 23, 2007 at the First Baptist Church in South Bend, IN.

Mike retired from MoRryde International in 2024 as an electrical maintenance supervisor. He enjoyed playing golf and bowling with his friends. He was an avid NASCAR and Notre Dame fan. Most of all he loved to spend time with his family. Mike will be sadly missed.

Mike is survived by his wife Susan Stewart of Elkhart, IN; their children Phillip Stewart of Rockville, IN., Rachel Starkweather of Elkhart, IN., grandchildren Braidynn Stewart, Elijah Stewart and Gionna Starkweather; parents Jerry and Karen Stewart of Portage, IN., siblings, Deanna Gage of Katy, TX., Pam (Eddie) Kliza of Portage, IN., Linda (Scott) Cavanaugh of Surprise, AZ., nephews and nieces Joshua (Danielle) McLucas, Karen McLucas, Richard (Destiny) McLucas, CJ (Kelsie) Cavanaugh, Tyler (Janette) Cavanaugh, James (Kayla) Kovecsi, Tim Kliza and Joey (Aisha) Kliza; great-nieces and great-nephews Jonathan McLucas, Jeremy McLucas, Mitchell McLucas, Lyla Cavanaugh along with the entire “Ayers” family.

A time to gather will be from 10am – 1pm on Saturday, June 15, 2024 at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, 1531 Cobblestone Blvd., Elkhart, IN 46514. A time of sharing will follow at 1pm to allow everyone the opportunity to speak and share memories of Mike.  The family requests everyone to come dressed in their favorite Notre Dame attire or casual wear, but this is not a requirement.  Online condolences may be made to Mike’s family at www.stemmlawsonpeterson.com
