Patrick "Tony" Davis

June 4, 1934 — July 22, 2018

Patrick A. “Tony” Davis, of Elkhart, died peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, July 22, 2018.

A native of Enniscorthy, County Wexford, Ireland, Patrick was the child of William Davis and Mary Callaghan. His father was a soldier in the British Army, serving in the Boer War and WWI.

Patrick married Mary Nye, an Elkhart native, at St. Mary’s Church in Shipley, England on Oct. 8, 1960. Patrick and Mary settled in the U.S. in 1961 and Patrick became a U.S. citizen in 1975.

He was a welder by trade and used his skill in later years to build beautiful wrought iron pieces that ranged from full size beds and dining tables to doll furniture for his granddaughters.

After he retired in 1998, he worked for his son-in-law at Antonio’s Restaurant in Elkhart, where he was known as the resident Irishman in an Italian restaurant.

In addition to his wife of 57 years, Patrick is survived by his children: Betsy (Peter Daly) Davis of Cortlandt Manor, NY; Kathleen (John) Hudak of Warsaw, IN; Erin (Paul) Cataldo of Goshen, IN; and Patrick (Traci) Davis of Humble, TX. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Grainne and Conor Daly, James Stanton, Alannah, Tony, Caitlin, Carmela, Gemma and Gianna Cataldo and Brianna, Ailey and Liam Davis; and a beloved great-grandchild, Dante Stanton. A sister, Anna Hayden, of Birmingham, England, survives.

He was preceded in death by 11 brothers and 2 sisters.

He was a member of St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church and Enniscorthy Rugby Club in his youth.

His love of Ireland- it’s history, music and storytelling- will remain a lasting legacy to his family.
