Suzanne "Sue" Leatherman

Suzanne “Sue” Marie Leatherman, age 73 of Elkhart, IN passed away with her family by her side at her home on Monday, March 30, 2026. Sue was born on April 8, 1952 to Russell and Mary Fisher in Des Moines, IA. Sue married Jack Leatherman on August 8, 1994 in South Haven, MI, together they have celebrated over 31 years of marriage.

Sue attended St Joseph’s Academy and graduated from North High School in Des Moines Iowa. Afterwards, she attended Drake University. Sue moved with her family to Indiana in the early 80’s where she began her career in sales within the RV industry. She was a co-founder and operator of United Shade where she made a lasting impact on their employees & customers. During this time Sue was an avid golfer and traveler. She was blessed to retire early and begin her second chapter as Grandma to her three grandchildren. She enjoyed working in her yard, gardening, cooking and decorating for the holidays. She was a huge supporter of women’s basketball, especially the Notre Dame women’s basketball team, Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever. Most of all she loved to spend time with her family. Sue will be sadly missed by her family that she loved so much.

Sue is survived by her husband Jack, her daughters Anna Trim of Granger, IN., Katie Volheim of Huntsville, Al; her mom Mary Mateer of La Crescent, MN; grandchildren Lauren Trim, Dylan Volheim and Evan Volheim and her sister Marlene Fisher of LaCrescent, MN. Sue was preceded in death by her father Russell Fisher, stepfather who raised her like his own Norman Mateer, siblings Russ Fisher, Rick Fisher and Ronnie Fisher.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 pm on Thursday, April 9, 2026 at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, 1531 Cobblestone Blvd., Elkhart, IN 46514 Visitation on Friday, April 10, 2026 from 11-12 pm at the funeral home funeral services will be held at 12pm.
