Thomas M. Ross, 56, of Bloomington, IN, formerly of Elkhart, died Sunday, August 9, 2009 at his home.
He was born August 28, 1952 in Elkhart to Cecil Harold and Betty E. (Roy) Ross. He is survived by 2 brothers, Joseph Ross of Lansing, MI and Douglas (Sherry) Ross of Mishawaka, IN. His parents preceded in death.
Tom graduated from Elkhart High School in 1971 and earned a degree in mechanical engineering from Tri-State University. He was a mechanical engineer for the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division for 21 years. He designed sonar systems for U.S. Navy submarines. He was an Eagle Scout and a past scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts, a volunteer for Big Brothers-Big Sisters, Boys Clubs and Lifeline. He was an accomplished sailor and private pilot. He also was a former firefighter for the Osolo Township Volunteer Fire Dept.
Friends may call from 2-4 pm Sunday at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, 1531 Cobblestone Blvd. Elkhart and an hour prior to the 11 am funeral on Monday at the funeral home. Reverend Dick Dunn will officiate. Private family burial will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.
