Uvieja "Wee-Gee" Z. Good-Leighton

Uvieja “Wee-Gee” Z. Good-Leighton, age 82 of Cobblestone Blvd., in Elkhart, IN passed away on Monday, February 9, 2026 with her family by her side at Harmony Assisted Living in Elkhart, IN. Uvieja was born on February 25, 1943 to Arthur and Frances Good in Mishawaka, IN. Uvieja married Larry Leighton, he preceded her in August of 2019.

Uvieja earned her B.A. from Purdue University and M.A. and PH.D. from Indiana University. She worked as a professor, dean, College of Undergraduate studies and associate professor and associate to the chancellor at the Union Institute & University, Sacramento, CA in Cincinnati, OH. She also published several publications, Belva Ann Lockwood Who? Courtroom Credibility, Dean Rusk: A dialogue at Indiana University and Infamous Last Words: gallows Speeches in America, just to name a few. Uvieja was awarded the Indiana’s Outstanding Young Woman Award in 1977. Uvieja enjoyed skiing and traveling with her late husband Larry. She loved to spend time with her family and friends.

Uvieja is survived by her sisters, Cedalia Critzer of Lombard, IL., Zealia Drexler of Elkhart, IN and Arthea Estridge of Bristol, IN, several nieces and nephews and her two beautiful cats. Uvieja was preceded in death by her parents Arthur and Frances, her husband Larry.

Visitation will be held from 11am-1pm on Saturday, February 14, 2026 at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, 1531 Cobblestone Blvd., Elkhart, IN 46514 where funeral services will be held at 1pm.
