Van A. Hershberger, "Vanno" 75, of Elkhart, IN passed away peacefully on August 26, 2025. Van was born on July 14, 1950, in Elkhart, IN to Kenton Hershberger and Alice (Enochs) Hershberger, who have preceded him in death.
Van graduated from Concord High School and made his career in the paint/repair division of the RV industry; a job that he thoroughly enjoyed and where he developed lifelong friendships.
His attention to detail served him well. No task was too great for Van; his immense curiosity drove him to repair, rebuild, and construct almost anything; cars, motorcycles, remote-control airplanes even building his own ultra-light airplane. His love for aviation brought him countless joyful days. Van was also the lead guitarist in a classic rock band.
One of his notable achievements was participating in CAPS Elks on Parade capturing 1 st Place out of 33 entries. "Mr. Elk goes to the Lerner" shows his immense painting talent, and up until his illness, he took great pride in personally keeping "Mr. Elk" in its original condition.
Van was a kindhearted man with a tender soul and a strong faith. Always willing to lend a helping hand to any friend, neighbor, and family member at a moment's notice. Not only was he "one of the good guys" but he was one of the very best. Van will be so missed by all those that knew and loved him (which was everyone) but his infectious smile will never be forgotten.
Van is survived by his brother Monte Hershberger (Pamela Austin), of Elkhart, Indiana; 2 sisters Beth Ann (Wayne) Dewey of California, Audrey (Andy) Owens of Kentucky; his nephew Mark Kennedy, nieces Dawn Kennedy and Julie Hershberger and many cousins.
