Verline Lane

November 12, 1922 — January 28, 2018

Verline Scott Lane moved from labor to reward on January 28, 2018. She was born November 12, 1922 in Dyersburg, Tennessee to Richard and Odellia Scott. She was the youngest of 7 children. Verline later married Billy C. Lane in Dyersburg, Tennessee.

She accepted Christ at any early age. She was a member of the Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church since the early 1950’s. She served as a missionary and was a part of the kitchen committee until she became ill. She worked at the Holiday Inn for approximately 19 years prior to its closing. Verline was an amazing cook and one of the most favorite dishes was her “chicken dumplings”. Verline loved the Lord and lived a life that brought glory to His name. She was a loving person to everyone she came in contact with. She loved family!

She leaves to cherish her memory 6 children; 3 sons, James and Billy Lane both of Elkhart and Jerry (Theresa) Lane of Goshen; 3 daughters, Minnie (Christopher) Brown of Mishawaka, Janice (William) Lewis of Elkhart and Joyce (Gary) Wilbert of Jacksonville, NC; 27 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren, 48 great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband Billy C. Lane Sr., son, Larry Lane, daughters, Michelle Lane and Edna Frances Carter, mother and father Richard and Odellia Scott, grandsons, David Tyrone Lane and Robert Carter Jr.

Visitation will be on Saturday, Feb. 3rd from 11am to Noon at the Agape Missionary Baptist Church, where her service will begin at Noon. Reverend Danny Brown will officiate. Entombment will follow at Faith Mausoleum, Rice Cemetery. Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home is entrusted with her care.
