Viola Fern Bloomingdale

Viola Fern Bloomingdale, 95, of Elkhart passed away on August 11, 2024 at Greenleaf Health Campus, surrounded by her family. Viola was born on August 22, 1928 to Charles and Eva Berkey in Vistula, IN. She married Earl W. Bloomingdale on June 26, 1949 at St. John’s United Church in Elkhart, IN.

Viola graduated from Elkhart Central High School. She worked for several years in the payroll department as a senior accountant for Federal Paperboard, formerly Continental Can. She was a member of Bristol United Methodist Church, most recently known as Bristol Community Church. She enjoyed reading the Bible, crocheting, shopping and playing cards. Viola was known to many for her loving ways and her kindness. She loved to spend time with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Viola is survived by her daughters Lana (Bradley R.) Cox of Elkhart, IN and Lynn R. (Richard James “Jim”) Stoddard of Bristol, IN; grandchildren Corey (Lindsey) Cox, Casey (Dayna) Cox and Matthew (Chelsea) Stoddard; great-grandchildren Evelyn, Olivia, Ezra, Audrey and Margaret. Viola was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her siblings, Lelsie Berkey, Paul Berkey, Elma Sommers, Vera Swihart and Rosemary Stoner and her grandson Michael Stoddard.

Visitation will be from 12-1pm on Friday August 16, 2024 at Bristol Community Church, 201 South Division Street, Bristol, IN 46507 where funeral services will be held at 1pm. Pastor Gary Lewis will officiate. Entombment will follow at Rice Cemetery in Elkhart, IN. Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral, 1531 Cobblestone Blvd., Elkhart, IN 46514 is assisting Viola family.
