Violet Treadway, 93, of Elkhart, passed away Monday July 6, 2026 at Hubbard Hill Estates, Elkhart. She was born November 15, 1932 in Fola, WV to William L. and Lola Jeffers. On February 16, 1952 in Oakhill, WV, she married Carlos W. Treadway who preceded her in death on March 27, 2009.
Violet was involved in ministries for the deaf alongside her husband, Carlos, for many years at Northside Baptist Church and First Baptist Church, where she was a long-time member. While in high school she began working for the F.W. Woolworth company. After high school she worked as a secretary for the Oak Hill Finance Company in West Virginia and then for the Army Chemical Center in Edgewood, MD, which required an elevated security clearance. Violet also worked as a secretary for Calvary Baptist Church of Bel Air, MD and First Baptist Church of New Castle, DE. She then went on to work for the Bureau of Motor vehicles for 26 years. She was also involved in and volunteered at Ribbon of Hope Ministries and Elkhart General Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed quilting and reading for over 40 years.
Surviving are her four sons, L. Stanley (Jackie) Treadway of Elkhart, H. Vincent (Faith) Treadway of Babson Park, FL., Russell B. (JoAnne) Treadway of Palm Coast, FL., and the Rev. Keith J. (Dawn) Treadway of Kokomo, IN; grandchildren Nathan (Katie) Treadway, Phillip (Sarah) Treadway, Stephanie (Colin) Bontrager, Hallie (Ben) Whitmore, Jared (Hannah) Treadway, Hannah Treadway, Brooke Treadway and Caleb Treadway, great-grandchildren, Ian, Will, Finnegan, Averly, Nolan, Corbin, Lucy, Henry, David, Gracelyn, Enoch, Lydia, Levi and Josiah and sister Karen Jeffers of Arlington, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Carlos, sisters Juanita Davis, Nada Rudd, June and husband, Don Alexander and Ann Jeffers and her brother William Ancel and wife, Jan Jeffers.
Visitation will be from 12:00pm to 1:00pm on Friday, July 10, 2026 at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, 1531 Cobblestone Blvd., Elkhart, IN 46514 where a funeral service will be at 1:00pm with Reverand Keith Treadway officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie Street Cemetery, Elkhart.
