Our Ginger has gone to be with her lord on Saturday August 13, 2022 after a long struggle as a result of a stroke 5 years ago. She is now at peace.
She was born April 14, 1943 in Houston, Texas, to Raymond S. and Ruth E. Flagg, both deceased. After several moves, the family settled in Fort Wayne, IN where Ginger graduated from South Side High School and then Ravenscroft Beauty College. She worked as a hairdresser for many years in North Manchester and in the Elkhart area. She moved to Elkhart in 1965. She met Bill “Darwin” Vilmure and they married November 29, 1975. They spent a great life together until his death in May of 2014.
Ginger loved her Lord and her family. She was active in her church, Faith United Methodist, singing in the choir for many years. She was a part of a bible study made up of people from Elkhart and Goshen.
She was always on the go. She volunteered, along with her husband Bill, at the Elkhart Jazz Festival. You could find her helping out at the local soup kitchen, special projects at her church as well as other organizations in Elkhart. She spent several years in a hard battle with cancer, which she won, and from that became a lobbyist for the American Cancer Society. Her group made several trips to Washington DC to draw support for the ACS.
She was a loving sister, aunt, cousin and step-mother. She is survived by her 3 siblings, sister Sonya (Jack) Weiss of Ft. Myers, FL, with her children Scotty Long, Jeff (Karen) Long and their children Marissa (Travis) Dowdy all of Elkhart, Emily Long of Middlebury, Sami Rae Long of Indianapolis, and Kelsie Long of Middlebury, brother Paul Flagg of Lakeland, FL, his children, Mindy Lynn Flagg(Deceased) and Christopher Flagg of Granger, and brother Larry Flagg of Bonita Springs, FL and Elkhart, his son Dustin Flagg of Elkhart, and his children Lexi and Caden Flagg. Also surviving are Mark, Laura and Lisa, the children of Bill Vilmure and Chris (deceased).
A special thank you to all the staff at Eastlake Nursing facility and Elkhart General Hospital along with Hospice for their gentle care of Ginger. Ginger’s “3 amigos” (close friends Susan, Linda and Jen) were also there to support and look after Ginger’s needs.
