William F. Roose, age 85, of Elkhart, IN passed away on June 11, 2026 at East Lake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born on January 19, 1941 in Elkhart, IN to William and Frances (Baylor) Roose. On September 11, 1965, he married Wanda Wear in Clinton, IL at First Christian Church.
Upon graduating from Elkhart High School in 1959, William proudly and bravely served his country in the United States Army. He then went on to work as a conductor for New York Central, Pennsylvania Railroad, Conrail Railroad and Norfolk Southern Railway for 42 years. He was a member of Kane Lodge 183, York Rite and Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend, IN, Orak Shrine as well as the Starlight #181 O.E.S. William was a hard working man, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother. He will be sadly missed.
William is survived by his wife, Wanda Roose, children; William “Bill” (Jody) Roose of Mottville, MI, Marie Mast of Elkhart, IN and Patricia “Pat” (Jeffrey) King of Elkhart, IN, seven beloved grandchildren; Courtney King, William “Billy” (Caitlyn) Roose, Torrie Mast, Stephanie Roose, Brett King, Damian Mast, and Alexis King as well as his grand dogs, cats, ducks and birds. He was preceded in death by his parents; William and Frances Roose and sisters; June Mabie and Joan Weaver.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 26, 2026 from 3:00pm to 4:00pm with a Masonic Service taking place at 4:00pm at Kane Lodge, 931 Industrial Pkwy, Elkhart, IN 46516 followed by military honors. Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, 1531 Cobblestone Blvd, Elkhart, IN 46514, is assisting the family.
