Betty Secor Obituary

Betty Carol Secor was born on March 3, 1933 in rural Goshen. She was the daughter of Vernon and Fannie Miller. Betty was a graduate of Concord High School.

She loved to learn and pursued her interest in art, music and her professional skills as a secretary. Her cheerful manner, organizational skill and attention to detail opened up employment opportunities in many areas. She was employed in the Fairfield and Goshen Schools, World Missionary Press and Custom Crest. She also held several offices as a member of the Professional Secretaries Association Maple Leaf Chapter as well as the Red Hat Society.

She won numerous awards while living in the Greensburg, Indiana area for her artwork and painting skills. She is probably best known for her handcrafted promise/prayer boxes she crafted. 13,000 people received them within the last 25 years.

Betty married John Secor of Jimtown on June 24, 1951. The have four children: Brian (Sharon) Secor of Xenia, Ohio; Blain (Cindy) Secor of Spokane, Washington; Velinda Secor of Indianapolis, Indiana; and Valerie (Mark) Natvig of Lawler, Iowa. Betty has five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her siblings, Leroy Miller, Kenneth V. Miller, Bonnie Secor, Thelma Lewallen, and Leona Kauffman.

On October 29th under the loving care of Caring Cottage of South Bend, Betty went home to be with the Lord at the age of 87. Sunset in one land is sunrise in another.

Friends may visit with family from 1-2 pm on Friday, November 6, 2020 at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, 1531 Cobblestone Blvd., Elkhart, IN 46514 where funeral services will be held at 2pm. Interment will follow at Olive East Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to World Missionary Press, 19168 CR 146, New Paris, IN 46553.
