Frances (Johnson) Thorp

Frances Thorp, 107 of Elkhart passed away on June 17, 2020 at Eastlake Nursing Home and Rehabilitation in Elkhart. Frances was born on September 13, 1912 in Benton City, Missouri to Grant and Catherine Johnson. On January 14, 1961 she married Harry Thorp. He preceded her in death in 1978.

For many years Frances worked as a “Red Coat” assistant at Elkhart General Hospital. She also loved working for Dr. D. Ferling from 1979-1985 at his dental office. On her 104th birthday former Mayor Timothy Neese presented her with a key to the city. Even at a 107 birthday parties were a big part of her life. She loved to fish and play bingo.

Frances is survived by her friend Helena Benway of Elkhart, her longtime friend Kris Kuhlman, several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Ralph, Russell, Percy, Grace, Gertrude and Fern.

Friends may visit on Saturday, June, 27, 2020 from 10- 11 am at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, 1531 Cobblestone Blvd., Elkhart, IN 46514. Where funeral services will be held at 11am at the funeral home. Interment will at Rice Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
