Howard Weideman Obituary

Howard Dale Weideman, 102 of Elkhart, passed away Friday, April 10, 2020 at Greenleaf Health Care in Elkhart. Howard was born on June 26, 1917 in Chicago, IL to Glen and Martha Weideman. He married Elizabeth O. “Betty” Stembel on June 2, 1940 in Elkhart.

Howard retired from Federal Paper Board in 1982 after 44 years of service.  He was the most humble, giving and dedicated man anyone could ever know.  Those who knew him loved him deeply as he loved them.  He was a 77-year member of Kane Lodge #183, F. & A. M., and had served as its Worshipful Master in 1983.  His other memberships included Elkhart Commandery #31, Chapter #101 and Council #79 of the York Rite.  In addition, he was a member of the Starlight Chapter #181 OES and the Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem.  Howard was distinguished in Freemasonry by being an elected member of the Yeoman of York #5 and K.Y.C.H. #8. As a Shriner, he loved helping children by driving them to the Shriners Hospital for Children in Chicago.  Howard was also a member of Clark Memorial Church, Elkhart.

Howard is survived by his daughters, Barbara (David) Mills of Ovid, MI and Nancy (Jack Jr.) Wait of Elkhart, his son, Thomas (Nanci) Weideman of Hoover, AL ; grandchildren, Jonathon (Lori) Martin, Jami  Foreback, Lisa Martin Bergroth, Brenton (Jennifer) Jones, Ryan (Vicki) Jones, Cara (Ara) Dombourian, Lynn Weideman, Bradley Weideman, Aaron (Kami) Wait, Andrew (Bethany) Wait and Alex (Jenna) Wait; 17 great-grandchildren and 2 great-greatgrandchildren.  Howard was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his daughter, Beth Ann Jones (her husband Dennis) and his brother, Roy Weideman.

A celebration of life service for Howard will be held at Rice Cemetery September 26th at 11:00 a.m. Memorial donations may be given to the Salvation Army, 300 North Main Street, Elkhart, IN 46516. Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home is assisting the Weideman family.
