James McGinn

James "Jim" McGinn, 80, passed away peacefully after a long illness on Tuesday, December 26, 2023.

Jim was born in Owosso, Michigan to the late Neil and Bernadette McGinn. He married Phyllis in 1968.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Neil McGinn.

Jim is survived by his wife of 55 years, Phyllis McGinn of Elkhart; his four daughters, Kelli (Casey) Becker, Stacy McGinn, Lauren (Bill) Freese, and Blaire (Jeff) Huerta; and his 9 grandchildren, Conner and Kellan Becker, Evan, Anna, and Caroline Hobik, Kaitlyn and Bailey Freese and Dylan and Carter Huerta.

Jim earned his bachelors degree in Industrial Design from Michigan State University in Lansing, MI.

After serving as an Army First Lieutenant in the Vietnam War, his continued his education, attending graduate school at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, IL.

Jim had a successful 35 year career in Industrial Design, with opportunities that allowed the family to experience life in Illinois, Georgia, California, Wisconsin and Texas. They finally settled in the fruit hills of Bristol, Indiana, where Jim worked with Liberty Homes in Goshen for the last 20 years of his professional life. He retired an avid fisherman, hunter and supportive husband, father and Papa.

A gathering to celebrate Jim's life will be held from 1 to 4pm Saturday, January 13, 2024 at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, 1531 Cobblestone Blvd, Elkhart, IN 46514. Online condolences may be made at www.stemmlawsonpeterson.com
