James Thies Obituary

James W. Thies, 75, of Elkhart passed away Thursday, November 12, 2020 at Elkhart General Hospital following a valiant battle against COVID-19.  He was born on November 28, 1944 in St. Louis, MO to Warren and Mary Evelyn Thies.  In 1964, he married Sandra Hake in Nashville, IL at Grace United Methodist Church; she preceded him in death in 1992.  In 2000, he married Linda Wright in Elkhart, IN at Trinity United Methodist Church.  He is survived by his wife, Linda; his children, Jeff Thies of Indianapolis, IN, Michael Thies of South Bend, IN, and Michelle Thies (Kevin Frick) of San Carlos, CA; and his sister, Darlene (James) Roberson of Alabama.

Jim graduated from Southern Illinois University.  He retired from a career in accounting for Miles Laboratory, serving as Financial Officer for the Consumer Products Division and as a member of the negotiating team for labor contracts. He was an avid outdoorsman, had a lifelong dedication to fitness, and enjoyed spending summers at Donnell Lake.  He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church and served on various boards throughout his life, including the Donnell Lake Conservation Club.

Friends may visit with family from 4-8 pm on Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, 1531 Cobblestone Blvd., Elkhart, IN.  Private services will be held in Carbondale, IL.  In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Humane Society of Elkhart County, 54687 CR 19, Bristol, IN 46507 or  www.elkharthumanesociety.org
