Karen Godshalk Obituary

Karen Godshalk, 76, of Elkhart, passed away Sunday Feb. 16, 2020 at Elkhart General Hospital. She was born March 24, 1943 in Detroit, Michigan to Ernest George and Evelyn Pearl Smith Godshalk. On Dec. 6, 1969 at Southfield Community Church in Southfield, MI she married Stanley Robert Godshalk who preceded her in death on Jan. 27, 2019.

Karen retired as a teacher from Elkhart Community Schools. She received Teacher of the year from Walmart in 2005 and was a member of Elkhart Teachers Association and Elkhart Retired Teachers Association.

Surviving are her sons: Robert (Tracy) Godshalk and Joseph (Sally) Godshalk both of Elkhart; grandchildren, Alyssa Godshalk, Sebastian Darr, Preston Skinner, Arielle Godshalk, Torry Merwin and Ciara Collett; her brother Ernest George Smith of Detroit, MI and her dog Wienershnitzel. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and her brother Joseph Charles Smith.

A memorial service will be held at 4 pm on Friday February 21, 2020 at Elkhart East Christian Church, 21851 CR 4, Bristol, IN 46507 where friends may visit one hour before services with Pastor Thomas Short officiating. Memorial donations may be made in memory of Karen to the church.  Arrangements are entrusted to Stemm-Lawson-Peterson-Funeral Home in Elkhart.
