Kathryn J. (Wilson) Rhodes

Kathryn J. Rhodes, age 90, of Elkhart passed away on Sunday, September 20, 2020 at Hubbard Hill Estates in Elkhart.  She was born on July 26, 1930 in Mongo, IN to Roy and Neva Wilson. Kathryn married Robert L. Rhodes on September 4, 1948 in Orland, IN.

Kathryn received her Bachelor of Science from Goshen College and her Masters degree from Indiana University South Bend. She retired from Elkhart Community Schools after 27 years of teaching. However, retirement didn’t slow her down.  She was a substitute teacher for 15 years after her retirement. She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Goshen, where she served on numerous committees. She enjoyed volunteering at Faith United Methodist Church and Hubbard Hill Estates. She was a member of the Elkhart City Retired Teachers Association, Indiana State Teachers Association and National Education Association.

Kathryn is survived by her children, Richard (Kathryn M.) Rhodes of Elkhart and Donald (Jeanine) Rhodes of Madison; 4 grandchildren, Marc (Amanda) Dittmer, Lori Rhodes, Megan (James) Duncan and Jameson Rhodes and 5 great-grandchildren. Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her siblings, Lois Dunkel, Evelyn Klinger and Murlyn Wilson.

Friends may visit with family from 10 am to 12 pm on Wednesday, September 23, 2020 at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, 1531 Cobblestone, Blvd., Elkhart, IN 46514. Due to the current pandemic there will be no public services. She will be laid to rest at Rice Cemetery next to her husband.
