Larry G. Johnson

July 15, 1944 ~ June 4, 2021 (age 76)


Larry G. Johnson, 76, of Elkhart, passed away Friday June 4, 2021 at Goshen Hospital as a result from battling Covid-19. He was born July 15, 1944 in Bedford, IN to Glen and Mary Johnson.  On November 14, 1981 he married Janet S. Lightfoot who preceded him in death on May 5, 2017.

Larry graduated from Elkhart High School class of 1962. He worked at Bayer Corporation from 1969 until his retirement in 2017. He loved restoring and repairing guns and reading. He was a member of the Willowdale Avenue Church of Christ and the National Rifle Association. Larry Honorably served his country in the United States Air Force. Larry’s favorite place to eat was the Golden Egg Pancake House in Elkhart.

Larry is survived by his sister, Linda K. (Bill) Rider, nephew Jeffrey (Sarah) Johnson and a step-grandson, Nathan Griffey (who he helped raise) and 4 other step-grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, step-son Scott Miller and his sister-in-law, Wanda Funderburk. He was preceded in death by a step-daughter Joyce E. Miller and a grandson, Nickalaus Griffey.

Friends may visit from 10am – 11am on June 11, 2021 at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, 1531 Cobblestone Blvd., Elkhart, IN 46514. Graveside services will be held at 11:30 am at Prairie Street Cemetery in Elkhart with military honors.
