Maxine "Mickey" (Archer) Welbaum

Maxine “Mickey” Welbaum, age 103, of Elkhart passed away on April 27, 2022 at Riverside Village in Elkhart. She was born to George and Edith Archer on November 25, 1918 in Milford, Indiana. Maxine married the love of her life Gerald Welbaum on April 12, 1967 in Elkhart.

Maxine graduated from Jimtown High School. She enjoyed playing softball at Studebaker Park in Elkhart, this is where her nick name Mickey came into play, this is also where she met her husband. Maxine and Gerald enjoyed traveling. They visited almost all 50 states and even travel abroad. In her youth she worked as a presser for Moore's Cleaners for over 20 years and Carriage Cleaners for over 10 and retired in 1985. She was a life member of the DAV #19 women’s auxiliary. She loved to spend time playing bingo or spending with her family and friends.

Maxine is survived by her children Sherri Ducharme of South Bend, Sue Wolgamood of Elkhart, IN and Ray (Leslie) Flynn of Florida; 14 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren. Maxine was preceded in death by her husband Gerald on December 19, 2007; daughter Bonnie Reese, sisters Georgia Holdren and Annabelle Scott, brother Lamar Archer, son-in-law Robert Ducharme and grandson Mark Trumpower.

Graveside services will be held 11am on Tuesday, May 3, 2022 at Gracelawn Cemetery in Middlebury, where Maxine will be laid to rest next to her husband. Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, 1531 cobblestone Blvd., Elkhart, IN 46514 is assisting the Welbaum family. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the donor of your choice.
