March 26, 1939 ~ September 22, 2023 (age 84) 84 Years Old
Nevin James Houston, 84 of Elkhart passed away on Friday, September 22, 2023 at Elkhart General Hospital. Nevin was born March 26, 1939 in Elkhart to John Robertson and Neva Frances Houston. He married Mary A. Werbiansky on March 3, 1962 in Elkhart, IN.
Nevin graduated from Elkhart High School Class of 1957. He honorably served his country in the United States Air Force from 1961-1965 during the Cuban Crisis and the Vietnam Era. He received a Good Conduct medal and a Presidential Unit Citation. He served as secretary for 48th Squadron Associate retirees. Nevin worked for over 42 years at CTS Corp, working in a variety of positions. He was a member of the Tyrian #12 Masonic Lodge in Goshen, 22-degree Scottish Rite in South Bend, IN. He was proud to be a HAM Radio operator- WB9ARM. He enjoyed doing woodwork and making things to share with his family, especially bird houses. His favorite time was the time he spent with his family and friends.
Nevin is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary Houston; children Mike Bullock of Riverside, CA., Edward Houston of Manassas, VA and Susan Houston of Elkhart, IN; his grandchildren Brett Bullock, Daniel Covert, Emma Houston and Adam Covert; and his sister Heidi Zavatsky of Elkhart. Nevin was preceded in death by his parents John and Neva Houston.
Visitation will be from 10 am – 1pm on Friday, September 29, 2023 at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, 1531 Cobblestone Blvd., Elkhart, IN 46514 where services will be at 1pm. Nevin will be laid to rest at Forest Grove Cemetery in Middlebury, IN with full military honors.
