Richard Koerting Obituary

Richard “Dick” Koerting, 83, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully Friday April 17, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on January 26, 1937 in Elkhart to William “Bill” and Helen Koerting. He married the love of his life, Gretchen Wambaugh, on July 4th, 1961 at the First Presbyterian Church in Elkhart.

Dick received his undergraduate degree from Stanford University, where he lettered in Swimming, and his graduate degree from Northwestern University. He honorably served his Country in the United States Army where he was accepted into Officer Candidate School and attained the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. His business career started with Hewlett-Packard and FMC before working for 30+ years and retiring from Miles Laboratory / Bayer Corporation. He was a member of Elkhart Rotary and served on the Boards of The Humane Society, Goodwill and Adec.

Dick is survived by his wife of 58 years, Gretchen and their sons, Rick (Janice) Koerting of Elkhart, Woody (Jennifer) Koerting of Cincinnati, OH and David Koerting of Chicago, IL and his grandchildren David, Sarah, Lauren, Morgan, Haley and Nick. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Dick was a proud husband and loving father who enjoyed time with family and friends.  Whether he was participating in meetings, running errands or just being out in the community, he always had a smile on his face and enjoyed talking with everyone.

In keeping with Dick’s wishes, all services will be held privately, and inurnment will take place at Rice Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Center for Hospice Care Foundation, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545 or Elkhart County Humane Society, 54687 County Road 19, Bristol, IN 46507.
