Thomas Dean Nelson, 91, of Edwardsburg, MI, passed away Monday February 12, 2024 at his home. He was born February 25, 1932 in Elkhart to Burr and Rose Nelson.

After high school Tom attended Indiana University and then honorably served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. After serving in the military he attended the University of California Riverside.

He worked for the Elkhart Post office for 28 years. He was a member of Kessington Community Church and the American Legion in Elkhart, IN. He enjoyed gardening and raising gladiolas.

Surviving are his sisters: Rosemary Miller and Diann (Gerald) Hoyt, nieces and nephews, Cathy Smith, Donald (Rochelle) Miller, Timothy Miller, Jeffrita (David) Colglazier, Connie Miller, Stephen (Kandy) Stacker, Edward (Diane) Stacker, Marcia Dowdy, Jamie (Neil) Helbling and Michelle Maley and 24 great-nieces and nephews and 10 great-great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sisters Sharon Stacker and Jacqueline Westlake, brothers-in-law David Miller and Harvey Westlake and 3 great-nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 10-11am on  Saturday February 17, 2024  at Kessington Community Church, 70200 Kessington Road, Edwardsburg, MI 49112 with Pastor Steven Steele officiating. Funeral services will be at 11 am at the church. Burial will follow in Kessington Cemetery. Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home is assisting the Nelson family.

Memorials for Tom may be given to Kessington Community Church Outreach Fund.
