Valerie L. Reecer

Valerie L. Reecer, 69 of Elkhart, IN passed away on June 8, 2021 after an extended illness with her family by her side.

Valerie was born in Elkhart, IN on May 31, 1952 to the late John Usery and Edna (Gillette) Usery.  She was married to the love of her life, Dale A. Reecer on July 31, 1987; they were married 33 years.

She is survived by her husband, Dale; her daughters, Stephanie Miller, Saundra “Sunny” (Steve) Bermea, Sharon “Cher” (Steve) Johnson, Rachel Stewart (Mike Troyer), Rita (Keith) Kurtz; her sisters, Pamela (Timothy) Whitten and Rhonda (Eric) Kolberg.  She was affectionately known as “Mimi” to her grandchildren and great grandchildren; Gabriel, Chaz, Paige, Ally, Dreama, Alec, Lexi, Drake, Val, Megan, Rainie, Kenzie, Maddox, Kayla, Karmen, Jax, Oliver, and Nadia.

Valerie attended Jimtown High School and Carter Secretarial School.  She worked as an office manager for the Elkhart City Street Department for 26 years until her retirement.  Spending time with her family was her true passion.  She loved to organize fun things the entire family could do together; trips to the zoo, swimming in the pool, going to the beach, attending festivals, family dinners, game nights and watching movies were just some of the ways her time was spent with the kids and grandkids.  She attended the kids’ sporting events, plays, musicals, concerts, etc. as often as possible and cheered them on with pride.  Truly, time spent with family doing absolutely anything was a great day in Mimi’s book.  She will be missed by all.  Her family takes comfort in knowing she is at peace in the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 15, at 1pm in Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, 1531 Cobblestone Blvd., Elkhart, IN 46514 with Phil Laws officiating.  Visitation will be held from 11-1 at the funeral home before the start of the service.  Burial to follow at Old Olive Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Elkhart County Suicide Prevention Coalition.  Checks can be made payable to “ECSPC” and mailed to 608 Oakland Ave, Elkhart, IN 46514.
